Best Luxury Hotels In Cartagena

Founded by the Carthaginians over two centuries B.C., this Spanish city went on to become a Roman stronghold, a fortified port and a major Spanish Naval base, thanks to its key location on the Mediterranean Sea. As such, there are many ruins and relics to see, and museums to visit. But you can also hit the beach; there are over 72 coves and sandy strips within the municipality, including the large and popular El Gorguel, ideal for safe swimming. And do sample some of the excellent local tapas via the buzzing Cartagena restaurant scene.

Located beside the ocean, NH is also a short walk to the Naval Museum and Roman Theatre. Its 100 rooms offer views of either the sea or the city, many with balconies, some interconnecting and all decorated in a signature wenge brown and white colour palette. Rooms are categorised as either Standard, Superior, Superior XL rooms or Junior Suites – all of which have climate control (much needed in this part of the world), bathrobes and a minibar. The hotel’s Cibus Gastrobar overlooks the main square and specialises in gin and bite-sized Mediterranean tapas. A healthy, European-style buffet breakfast is served daily.
