Although the approach to furniture is designer minimal, all of the cleverly arranged accommodations include comfy seating areas, workspaces, big luxe floating-style beds and balconies. Natural materials are used throughout, including the incredible 1000 sqm wellness area, which offers clear views of the Swabian Alb. “Urban Soul meets Black Forest” is the motto of the Black Forest’s first “smart” luxury hotel where city chic combines with traditional Black Forest hospitality flawlessly. Located in Freudenstadt, the stylish design hotel is an expression of luxury, tranquillity, lifestyle and wellness. 67 modern guest rooms with panoramic views, a variety of lounge and bar concepts and a spa area covering more than 1,000 square metres are the ideal oasis to return to after a days walking in the summer or skiing in the winter.

Location

Located in the small hamlet of Lauterbad, it’s close to the larger town of Freudenstadt. You are right in the heart of the Black Forest positioned almost equal distances between Stuttgart and Strasbourg. The nearest airport is Stuttgard which is around a 1 hour 20-minute car journey away, while Baden-Baden is a one hour drive too. Freudenstadt Central Station is 2 km away, and free parking is provided at the hotel.

Rooms and Suites

The hotel offers seven rooms with a number of accommodation options within the new and historic part of the building. Ranging from studios, to doubles and suites with mountain or Swabian Alb views. Rooms feature safes, complimentary bottled water, a Nespresso machine and Flat-screen televisions with cable channels. Many rooms in the property include a balcony or patio. Apartment 47

Together with partners Monkey 47 Gin, the hotel has created a place where the urban Black Forest can be experienced right down to its roots. The result is Apartment 47. Three rooms in the historic part of the building have been transported into a large apartment. Wonderfully quiet with views of the surrounding forest. By the vision “speakeasy” and “offline” you will find an old tube and VHS cassettes, a turntable with vinyl records, an old typewriter and lots of retro chic. Befitting Monkey 47, there is a “copper bar” in the centre based on the still in which the noble juniper schnapps is distilled. The bar is well stocked for gin lovers, and pair this up with a tour of the distillery nearby to make this the ultimate gin lovers’ experience.

Food and Drink

The restaurant offers new creative dishes every day, with a focus on regional products and international flavours. The menu changes daily, offering both classic regional dishes and new innovative creations, while a varied and well stocked buffet breakfast is available each morning. Guests can dine or enjoy drinks outside on the terrace as well as in the restaurant, both of which offer panoramic countryside views.

Final Thoughts

We loved our stay at Fritz Lauterbad hotel. Staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and the room was clean, comfortable and had everything you needed. The breakfast each morning was delicious with a great selection of food and the views from the hotel are stunning.
