Elmbank York, Tapestry Collection By Hilton

Just minutes from the heart of York, the newly renovated Elmbank York, Tapestry Collection By Hilton is steeped in 19th-century history. The building was redesigned by George Walton, a contemporary of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and boasts one of the UK’s most complete Art Nouveau collections. Be greeted by stunning stained glass, murals, and intricate stencils as you make your way to the thoughtfully designed and elegantly styled guest quarters. Elmbank’s Leetham’s Brasserie serves seasonal dishes, while Peacock Bar, invites you to relax at the marble-topped bar surrounded by original Art Nouveau treasures. Location

Located in The Mount, a quiet residential area just a leisurely 15-minute stroll from York’s historic city centre and train station, the hotel provides convenient access to numerous attractions including York Racecourse, National Trust properties like Goddards Garden, Treasurer’s House, York Castle Museum, and The Shambles – one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval shopping streets. There is onsite hotel parking and EV chargers at the hotel too.

Bedrooms and Suites

62 bedrooms and suites are located across the main house, lodge and courtyard. In the main house and lodge guests can choose from Cosy Doubles, Queen and larger King rooms and for enhanced space a Junior Suite sleeps up to three people whilst the attic room in the Lodge is ideal for larger groups with its even bigger floor space.

Bedrooms are adorned with artwork celebrating Elmbank’s significant Yorkshire heritage and finished with contemporary furniture while en-suite bathrooms are tiles with hand-crafted GOLEM tiles and feature powerful rainfall showers. All rooms have USB charging stations, air conditioning, personal fridges, a HD TV, coffee and Yorkshire Tea provisions. Upgraded room options include Nespresso machines, roll-top baths and marble fireplaces.

Courtyard Rooms

Tucked behind the main house are the Courtyard Rooms which can be accessed from the hotel and via the car park making them ideal for larger groups or bringing pets as you don’t need to enter via the hotel. Rooms are available with King, Accessible King or Twin options and there are configurations with an interconnecting ‘front ‘porch door’ making them ideal for families booking two rooms together.

Food and Drink

The most striking display of Art Nouveau in the building is found in the hotel’s Leetham’s Brasserie and Peacock Bar. Start the evening with a cocktail or glass of wine in the Peacock Bar (or head out to the connecting outside front terrace)

Serving breakfast and an all-day dining menu, the menu is playful bringing in international flavours like chicken yakitori and tom yum soup, alongside classics like Shepherd’s pie and fish and chips. Save room for dessert and order sticky toffee pudding – it is one of the best I have had to date! Service is friendly and staff can’t do enough to help.

Final Thoughts

Elmbank York, Tapestry Collection By Hilton is a top addition to York’s boutique hotel scene. Its Art Nouveau history will leave you in awe while its friendly staff and refined food, drink and room offerings make it the ideal choice for both leisure and business travellers to the city.
