I revisit Terenka after a few years, since the opening season, and rediscover a property that has settled and matured into its beachside setting. The interior design is curated and considered, but natural and welcoming. The elitist art pretentions, and party rooftop have gone, and instead the property has pivoted towards a more authentic island lifestyle, including a strong focus on well-being .

Teranka continues to draw inspiration from the concept of terre d’ancrage – a secure haven amidst the elements of earth, sea, and sky -the essence of Teranka lies in its laid-back, natural aesthetic, which evokes Formentera’s free spirit.

Finding sanctuary

This thoughtfully designed boutique hotel, with a relaxed rooftop bar, infinity pool, a laid-back restaurant that spills out onto a sandy Mediterranean garden, shaded by twisted pines, offers a choice of accommodation from self-contained apartments to sea-view junior suites.

Bathed in natural light, Teranka’s 35 rooms and suites capture the essence of the Formentera, its captivating simplicity and beauty. Rooms, junior suites, and small apartments are artfully distributed across three distinct buildings – Mar, Tierra, and Cielo – each thoughtfully designed to harmonise with the surrounding elements of sea, land, and sky.

Culinary moments

Dining at Teranka unfolds in two distinct settings: the Teranka Garden and the Rooftop, with its unforgettable 360 views across Formentera and the surrounding waters. This means different settings for different times of day and moods, from poolside drinks and snacks, leisurely lunches in the garden and sunset rooftop suppers.

The Teranka Garden is at the heart of the property, where the lobby salon effortlessly flows into a dining area and shaded terrace and onwards, towards the garden, a communal space amidst the trees and dunes, where tables sit in dappled sunlight. Rooted in principles of provenance and sustainability, Teranka craft dishes that embody refined simplicity, honouring local producers.

There are lunchtime favourites like a classic burger and club sandwich, but also seafood and meat dishes, catch of the day, and pastas, as well as small plates like crispy cuttlefish, tuna sashimi, prawns with courgette noodles, and summer classics like gazpacho.

In contrast, the Rooftop Terrace embodies the sensation of being suspended in the sky, a space that seamlessly transitions from day to night, following the natural rythm of the island – it’s a memorable place for a cocktail as you soak in that view.
